Selling your car in Belgium
What you need to know when selling your car
The key rules and documents, clearly summarised.
- The registration certificate (both parts for the new model)
- The certificate of conformity (COC)
- The latest inspection certificate
- Service book and invoices
- All keys and any certificates (e.g. LPG)
When selling a used car registered in Belgium, the seller must provide a recent Car-Pass (no more than 2 months old). If you sell to a professional, such as a garage, this is not mandatory according to the FPS Economy. So when selling to XCS you do not need a Car-Pass.
If you sell to a private buyer in Flanders, the car must first be inspected (used vehicle inspection). According to the Flemish government, this requirement will be dropped from 1 January 2027, except for vehicles from abroad. If you sell to us, we handle the rest.
The number plate belongs to you, not to the car. After the sale you remove the plate and return it to the DIV or use it for your next car. Also notify your insurer.

Voor onderhoud ga ik zelf altijd naar Audi, maar deze keer had mijn RS3 nieuwe remblokken nodig. De offerte van Audi vond ik zelf sterk overdreven voor enkel remblokken. Via vrienden heb ik XCS leren kennen en ben ik daar eens binnengesprongen. Ik vertelde dat de offerte bij Audi aan de zeer hoge kant was, maar dat ik zeker ook niet voor de goedkoopste optie wilde gaan. Duur is niet altijd beter, maar goedkoop kan ook duurkoop zijn.
Bij XCS hebben ze duidelijk verstand van auto’s en wisten ze dat het vermogen van mijn auto ook degelijke remmen nodig heeft. In overleg zijn we samen uitgekomen op remblokken die dicht aansluiten bij de OEM-remmen van Audi, maar aan een veel schappelijkere prijs.
