Selling your performance car: why a GTI, M or RS gets a personal offer
For most cars, our car buying tool shows an indicative offer straight away. If you drive a performance version such as a GTI, an M or an RS, we make you a personal offer within 24 hours. We explain why and how to make your request as complete as possible.
When you want to sell your car, you mainly want to know quickly where you stand. That is why we built the car buying tool Sell your car. You enter your car's details and, for most cars, immediately receive an indicative offer. Performance versions work differently: the tool does not show an automatic amount, and instead we make you a personal offer within 24 hours. In this article we explain why.
What is a performance version?
Almost every brand has a sporty top of the range, with a more powerful engine, a revised chassis and often its own equipment. Think of a Volkswagen Golf GTI or Golf R, a BMW M3 or M4, an Audi S3 or RS3, or a Mercedes-AMG. Our tool recognises such versions by the version name and the power output. If your car is a performance version, you see a message that you will receive a personal offer within 24 hours.
Why no automatic amount?
An indicative offer works well for cars that are on the market in large numbers and whose value depends mainly on make, model, year, mileage and fuel. Performance versions have their own market value. With these cars, other factors play a bigger role:
- Version and options: within one model there are often several performance variants, packages and special editions. They help determine the value.
- Service history: with a powerful car, buyers pay extra attention to complete and timely maintenance.
- Condition: tyres, brakes, wheels and bodywork say a lot about how the car has been used.
- Modifications: an exhaust, intake, wheels or styling parts can add value for one buyer and not for another. The inspection and approval of those parts also matter.
An automatic calculation cannot take enough of this into account. That is why we review your details and photos ourselves and send you a tailored proposal.
How your request works
- Enter details: in the tool you enter the make, model, version and key details of your car.
- Your choice: you choose a sale to XCS, with a quick offer and payment after agreement and handover, or consignment, where we sell your car for you.
- Submit: after submitting you receive a reference number.
- Send photos: with that reference you send your photos via WhatsApp or email: at least 4 exterior photos and a photo of the registration certificate or the chassis number (VIN).
- Personal offer: for a performance version we send you a personal offer within 24 hours.
Tips for a strong request
The more complete your request, the more targeted our offer. These things help:
- Good photos: photograph the car in daylight from all sides and, if possible, add photos of the interior, wheels and odometer.
- Service book and invoices: state when and where the car was serviced.
- Options and packages: list the main equipment, especially if it is not standard on your version.
- Modifications: state honestly what has been changed on the car. Do you still have the original parts, such as the original exhaust or wheels? Let us know.
- Documents: have the registration certificate, the certificate of conformity, the inspection certificate and both keys ready. With modifications, include the tuning report too if you received one.
Sell or consign?
